The “coalfields” as this area is often called, is a place I’m fortunate to call home.  I come from a family of coal miners and  I worked in the coal mines while going through undergraduate school.   This gave me firsthand knowledge of the hard work our community endures. The first time I shoveled belt line in low coal, I decided to become a chiropractor within ten minutes.

Over the years my dad, Dr. Willis, and Dr. Tim Musick encouraged me to follow my dream of becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic. After graduating from Grundy High School in 1985, I received my AS degree from SVCC and my BS in biology from ETSU. The longer I went to school the more challenging it became but my interest and passion kept growing in the workings of the human body especially anatomy and neurology. I chose Logan University in St. Louis, MO because of its excellent reputation, research, and facilities. I graduated valedictorian of my class in 1992 with my Doctorate in Chiropractic. In 2000 I became a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician through the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians.

My practice philosophy is to treat every patient  the way I would want to be treated. Every individual is unique in their own way and deserves the respect of being more than just a number. I strive to educate my patients on the God given ability that our body has to heal itself.   Seeing a patient respond to care and get back to their normal daily active lifestyle is the most moving, soul-satisfying and deeply fulfilling aspect of my practice!

I’m a hometown guy who was fortunate enough to marry his high school sweetheart.   My wife, Cynthia, and I have two daughters. All four of us are active in the Vansant community as well as our church. I belong to many clubs and organizations but my favorite is Freemasonry. When I’m not in the office, chances are I’m enjoying the outdoors: hunting or golfing... anything outdoors.

My staff and I are always here to help our patients with advice and encouragement. I consider myself an excellent listener (talking is not a problem either) and hope I get the opportunity to meet you in person and discuss your specific health challenge.   I have over 20 years of practice experience in the Southwest Virginia community.  Give our Vansant office a call or email us to get started today!

Cynthia VanDyke

Cynthia is the wife of Dr. VanDyke.  She has served as the office manager since 1999.  She handles all billing and bookkeeping responsibilities.

Tonya Cox

Tonya is such a valuable member of our team and has been since 1992.  Given her years of experience, patients often jokingly say she runs the show.  We do not have enough room to list all her job duties but her main ones are patient reception, scheduling, and patient assistance.  Tonya is also a limited radiology technician who performs  x-rays on patients.

Melissa Ratliff

Melissa joined our team in October 2016.  She serves as a chiropractic assistant who handles therapy assistance, patient flow, and serves as Tonya's backup.  Melissa is very pleasant to work with and accommodating.

Melissa Horne

Melissa is a licensed massage therapist who owns and operates Head 2 Toe Massage.  Melissa performs massage inside our office and has been here since 2003.  Melissa is very good at what she does.  It is evident by her loyal customer base.
